Free the Panchen Lama

The global call for the release of Tibet’s Panchen Lama is growing as statements by UN human rights experts recently and by the US State Department earlier this year show.

Let’s call on the Australian Government to push for the immediate release of the Panchen Lama and his family.

Twenty-five years ago, six-year-old Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was recognised as the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet, the second most significant religious leader of the Tibetan people. Days later, he was forcibly disappeared by the Chinese Government, becoming the world’s youngest political prisoner.

The Panchen Lama is 31 years old and has remained in Chinese captivity for the last 25 years. For all these years, the Chinese Government has repeatedly ignored appeals from the Tibetans and the international community for the Panchen Lama’s release and disclosure about his wellbeing and whereabouts.
